Position Summary

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating all maintenance activities at the Greenville, Ohio facility to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production equipment, facility systems, and utilities. This position provides leadership to the maintenance team while supporting both day-shift and night-shift operations and partnering closely with Production, Quality, Safety, and site leadership.

The Maintenance Manager will lead a team of approximately 3–4 maintenance employees and is responsible for establishing work priorities, coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting equipment issues, improving equipment reliability, and minimizing production downtime.

This position requires strong mechanical and electrical knowledge, including the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, technical manuals, and equipment blueprints. The Maintenance Manager must be comfortable working in a manufacturing environment and collaborating directly with production employees, supervisors, managers, contractors, and other technical resources to identify and resolve equipment and facility concerns.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, develop, and support a maintenance team of approximately 3–4 employees supporting both day-shift and night-shift manufacturing operations.
  • Establish daily and weekly maintenance priorities based on production requirements, equipment condition, safety concerns, preventive maintenance schedules, and work orders.
  • Schedule and coordinate the repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, and installation of production machinery, tools, equipment, and facility systems to support continuous manufacturing operations.
  • Provide technical direction and troubleshooting support for mechanical and electrical equipment issues.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of industrial electrical systems and electrical troubleshooting practices.
  • Read, interpret, and utilize electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, equipment blueprints, technical manuals, and manufacturer specifications when troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, or installing equipment.
  • Coordinate maintenance coverage and priorities across day-shift and night-shift operations to ensure effective communication, appropriate staffing, and timely response to equipment issues.
  • Partner closely with Production employees, supervisors, managers, Engineering, Quality, HSE/Safety, and other departments to troubleshoot equipment concerns, minimize downtime, and improve equipment performance.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs, including Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) initiatives.
  • Review work orders, equipment history, downtime information, maintenance reports, production data, and other performance indicators to identify recurring problems and establish corrective actions.
  • Inspect operating machinery and equipment to ensure conformance with operational, safety, and performance standards.
  • Lead root-cause analysis of recurring equipment failures and implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, operational efficiency, maintenance effectiveness, and overall equipment utilization.
  • Plan, develop, and implement maintenance methods and procedures designed to improve operations, reduce downtime, control maintenance costs, and improve the utilization of labor and materials.
  • Coordinate the fabrication, modification, installation, and improvement of machinery, tooling, and equipment to support existing and new production requirements.
  • Review new equipment, product, and process plans and collaborate with Engineering, Production, and other stakeholders regarding equipment requirements, modifications, installation, and commissioning.
  • Direct maintenance activities involving facility and utility systems to support the continuous and reliable supply of electrical power, compressed air, heating, cooling, and other utilities required for operations.
  • Assist in maintaining an appropriate inventory of critical spare parts, maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Coordinate outside contractors and vendors, including developing or reviewing scopes of work, obtaining and evaluating quotes, scheduling work, monitoring contractor performance, and inspecting completed work.
  • Ensure contractors and maintenance employees comply with applicable site safety requirements and procedures.
  • Support compliance with OSHA requirements, company safety standards, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, electrical safety requirements, and other applicable regulations.
  • Promote a strong safety culture within the maintenance department and ensure maintenance activities are completed using appropriate safe-work practices.
  • Collaborate with site leadership regarding equipment condition, capital needs, maintenance priorities, reliability concerns, and opportunities for operational improvement.
  • Communicate maintenance priorities, equipment status, outstanding issues, and completed work effectively across shifts and departments.
  • Coach, train, and develop maintenance employees to strengthen technical capabilities, troubleshooting skills, accountability, teamwork, and overall department performance.
  • Participate in performance management, employee development, scheduling, and other supervisory responsibilities for assigned maintenance employees.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required to support the needs of the facility.

Education and/or Experience

  • Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field preferred; or
  • Five or more years of related industrial maintenance experience and/or technical training; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant experience.
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or maintenance team-lead experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment required.

Required Technical Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of industrial mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical equipment problems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, equipment blueprints, and technical documentation.
  • Working knowledge of motors, drives, controls, sensors, electrical distribution, and other industrial electrical components.
  • Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance principles and equipment reliability practices.
  • Understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and utility systems commonly found in manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with industrial safety practices, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and electrical safety.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance needs in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Ability to effectively lead employees working across multiple shifts.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with hourly production employees, maintenance technicians, supervisors, managers, engineers, contractors, and senior site leadership.
  • Ability to balance immediate production needs with long-term equipment reliability and preventive maintenance objectives.

Computer Skills

To perform this position successfully, an individual should be proficient in or capable of effectively utilizing:

  • Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
  • SAP or similar ERP systems
  • Database and inventory management software
  • Project management platforms
  • Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet applications
  • Microsoft Word or similar word-processing applications
  • Technical/design software and electronic equipment documentation as applicable

Leadership Expectations

The Maintenance Manager is expected to provide visible and effective leadership for the maintenance function. This includes establishing clear expectations, holding employees accountable, developing the technical capabilities of the maintenance team, ensuring effective communication between day and night shifts, and maintaining strong working relationships throughout the facility.

The Maintenance Manager should be comfortable working directly with production employees and management personnel at all levels of the organization. Success in this role requires a collaborative, hands-on approach and the ability to respond effectively to immediate equipment concerns while also driving long-term improvements in equipment reliability, preventive maintenance, safety, and operational performance.
