Summary: Sets-up and operates a machine to produce quality product in accordance with predetermined specifications and production schedules by performing the following duties.                                         

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include those found in the Assistant Extruder Operator description and the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Sets the order specifications and makes necessary adjustments as the job is running to assure the finished product is in accordance with specifications.

 

  • Assures all setpoints are correct with the machine at the required temperature and speed necessary to assure a quality product.  Notifies the  Supervisor if stop/go decisions are necessary.

 

  • Constantly monitors the run by visual inspections so that corrections con be made, if necessary, before the “run” is unacceptable.

 

  • Makes periodic checks of the Extrusion Machine and auxiliary equipment in his/her charge to assure proper mechanical and electrical functioning and notifies the supervisor if a problem is occurring.  May call the shift mechanic or electrician if immediate attention is necessary.

 

  • Oversees the activities of the Assistant Extruder Operator and Wind-Up Person or any others assigned to assist with the operation of his/her assigned Extrusion Machine.  This may include the training of new employees.

 

  • Organizes department material in accordance with customer orders and production schedule set for their shift.

 

  • Inventories all material in the department and accounts for material movement with row tags.

 

  • Loads and unloads material from trucks as needed.

 

  • Cuts and grinds all rework material in accordance with department procedure.

 

  • Responsible for proper safety and housekeeping practices in the area of his/her assigned Extrusion Machine.

Education and/or Experience:                                               

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Language Skills:                                                          

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

Mathematical Skills:                                                   

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability:                                                       

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Computer Skills:                                                          

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
